A sense of belonging

Program Details
-
Wildcatter Kids Theatre is a youth theatre program hosted by the Kansas Oil Museum geared for 1st - 8th grade students. The program gives students the opportunity to perform in a full stage production while learning acting, singing, teamwork, and confidence-building skills. Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where kids can grow creatively, make friends, and experience the excitement of putting on a live show.
-
Our productions are open to students in grade 1st - 8th grade at any experience level. Students can audition for lead and supporting roles or join the ensemble (No audition required!). No prior theatre experience is needed—many students are stepping on stage for the first time!
-
Most rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings from 5:30–7:30 PM. As we get closer to the show, we may add a few additional rehearsals, typically on Sunday afternoons. The week of the show (Tech Week) will be daily rehearsals. A full rehearsal schedule is provided in the program welcome packet so families can plan ahead.
-
Tuition for the program is:
• $150 for non-members
• $120 for Kansas Oil Museum membersTuition can be paid all at once or divided into monthly payments. Scholarships are available to help ensure every student who wants to participate has the opportunity.
-
Students audition if they would like to be considered for lead or supporting roles. However, auditions are not required to participate. Students are always welcome to join the ensemble, which plays an important role in bringing the world of the show to life through group songs, choreography, and scenes.
-
Students learn a variety of skills including:
• Acting and character development
• Vocal performance and music rehearsal
• Stage movement and choreography
• Teamwork and collaboration
• Confidence and public speakingThe program is designed to help students grow both on and off the stage.
-
Our productions typically take place over a weekend with multiple performances, so families and community members have several opportunities to attend. Exact performance dates are announced at the start of each production cycle. We have two production cycles: one in the spring and one in the fall.
-
Families can support the theatre program by volunteering backstage, helping with costumes or props, sponsoring a program ad, or simply encouraging their student to practice and participate. Community support helps us keep the program affordable and continue offering theatre opportunities for local youth.
Wildcatter Kids Theatre isn’t just about putting on a show—it’s about creating a full learning experience that helps students grow on and off the stage. Our program emphasizes confidence-building, teamwork, and lifelong skills through hands-on performance. Students get individualized attention in a supportive environment, whether they are in lead roles, supporting roles, or the ensemble.
Unlike many youth theatre programs, we combine professional-level resources—like guided music tracks, choreography videos, and structured at-home practice guidance—with a family-friendly community focus. Local volunteers, educators, and parents actively mentor students, helping them develop not only their acting and singing skills but also leadership, collaboration, and public-speaking abilities.
We celebrate creativity, inclusivity, and community involvement, making the theatre experience accessible and meaningful for every student, regardless of experience level.
