Board of Directors Opportunities

The museum is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that helps guide the organization’s mission, strategic planning, and long-term sustainability.

Serving on the board is a meaningful way to contribute to the preservation of Butler County’s history and support the continued growth of the museum.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play an essential role in the daily life of the museum. Whether assisting with events, helping care for collections, or supporting educational programs, volunteers help bring history to life for our visitors.

Volunteer opportunities may include:

No prior museum experience is required — just a willingness to learn and support the museum’s mission.

  • Tour Guides

    Help welcome visitors and share the story of Butler County and the Kansas oil industry by leading tours of the museum and outdoor campus.

  • Living History & Theatre

    Assist with historical interpretation, performances, and special programs that bring the past to life for visitors.

  • Educational Programs

    Share your skills by helping with youth programs, workshops, or even leading your own program—such as art classes, demonstrations, or hands-on learning activities.

  • Special Projects

    Support unique projects such as exhibit preparation, artifact organization, research assistance, or event planning.

  • Office Support

    Help with administrative tasks, event preparation, mailings, and other projects that support the museum’s daily operations.

  • Construction & Maintenance

    Assist with building repairs, exhibit upkeep, and maintenance projects around the museum’s historic structures and equipment.

  • Gardening & Grounds

    Help care for the museum’s outdoor spaces by assisting with landscaping, gardens, and ongoing campus improvements.
