    The Kansas Oil Museum hosts programs throughout the year that bring history, science, and community together. From monthly educational programs to large annual events, there is always something happening on our campus.

Monthly Events

Coffee & Collections

Second Friday of Every Month 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM

An informal program highlighting artifacts, archival materials, and fascinating discoveries from the museum's collections. Community discussion is encouraged.

Speaker Series

Third Thursday of Every Month 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM

Educational presentations featuring historians, researchers, industry professionals, and community experts connected to Butler County history, Kansas oil history, and regional culture.

Homeschool Days

Third Friday of Every Month 10:15 AM to 12:00 PM

Hands-on educational programs for homeschool students exploring Kansas history, energy science, and local heritage.

Every Saturday (unless a major event is scheduled)
Drop-in family activity connecting history, science, and creativity. Activities change weekly and are designed for repeat visits.

Maker Space Saturdays

Community Art Group

Third Saturday of Every Month 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Beginning April 2026, a volunteer-led creative gathering where participants bring their own art projects and enjoy making art together in the museum environment.

Yearly Events

January - Roots & Research Challenge

A month-long genealogy and local history challenge encouraging participants to explore family stories and historical records using the museum’s research resources.

November - Oil & Gas Legacy Gala

December - Old Fashioned Christmas

Each December, the Kansas Oil Museum partners with El Dorado Main Street to celebrate the holiday season with an Old Fashioned Christmas event. Families are invited to stop by the museum to enjoy a festive craft activity, warm cups of hot chocolate, and the chance to take photos with Santa. The event is designed to create a cozy, family-friendly holiday experience while connecting the community with the museum during the Christmas season.

Open Mic Café Night

Beginning May 2026 | Quarterly Event

A relaxed evening event where community members share poetry, storytelling, music, spoken word, or historical readings.

The goal of this program is to:

• Encourage storytelling and creative expression
• Connect community members through shared experiences
• Create a welcoming social evening at the museum

Jesse Perry Stratford Writing Contest (Reimagined)

The Kansas Oil Museum is working to refresh the long-standing Jesse Perry Stratford Writing Contest by expanding it to include more age groups and a wider variety of writing styles. Inspired by programs like the Write to Win contest, future versions may include categories such as poetry, short stories, essays, and other creative writing forms to encourage more community participation and celebrate local writers.
