Personal time is precious and often in short supply these days, and we want to show our appreciation to the volunteers that care about what we are trying to achieve for the visitors that come in our doors and for the community that we all share. Whether it’s been building and making repairs, running equipment, performing living history, or working in our research library, we are so thankful for everything they do for us!
Our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner will take place on Tuesday, April 4th at 6pm, with a catered meal and a historical presentation sponsored by the Kansas Humanities Council Speakers’ Bureau. Our guest speaker for the night will be Jane Rhodes, author of the 2009 Kansas Notable Book Kansas Opera Houses, Actors, and Community Events 1885—1925. Jane will be speaking on the topic of opera house culture on the Kansas frontier. She has traveled the state locating and photographing Kansas’ remaining opera houses, and as a native of this area she even has special information to share about El Dorado’s own Ellet Opera House.
