The Kansas Oil Museum currently has one staff position open.
To perform skilled work in the construction and maintenance of Butler County History
Center’s related facilities. Additional duties include assisting exhibit team in the construction of
exhibition displays; custodial care of the buildings, outdoor equipment and grounds of the
Museum and do related work as required. This position exercises a large degree of independent
judgment in planning, research, and implementation of activities.
This position is 20 to 30 hours a week at $10.00 - $12.00 per hour depending on experience
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
This position includes, but is not limited to, the following program activities.
Responsible for the construction and maintenance of Museum’s related facilities. Responsible for the development, maintenance and upkeep of the oilfield equipment and outdoor oilfield exhibits. Advises the Executive Director of needs and/or deterioration with the equipment. Work with Executive Director and Curator to maintain and repair historic buildings on museum grounds. Works with Executive Director and Curator of Collections on solutions to conservation care needs. Works closely with the museum exhibit team in construction of exhibition displays. This includes planning and implementing new exhibits and projects in both indoor and outdoor exhibit areas. Build panels, cases, backgrounds and stands for use in museum exhibits. Assist in the installation, maintenance, refurbishing and removal of exhibits.
Duties include (but not limited to) weeding, water, trim renovate and fertilize lawns; plant, water and care for shrubs, flowers and trees. Rake leaves, clean walks, pick up paper and debris, empty and clean waste receptacles. Other related work as assigned.
Responsible for general building maintenance and repairs, as well as cleaning of the buildings. Perform a variety of carpentry work, plumbing work, mechanical work and other building and facilities maintenance work. Maintain all tools and equipment. Keep buildings clean this includes: emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, sweeping/vacuuming floors and following a maintenance schedule.
Assist with museum programs and special events. This includes planning and implementation of activities.
1. Work schedule will be set by the Executive Director ensuring what best fits both the employee and museum schedules
2. Employee will report directly to the Executive Director
Must be able to:
1. Climb ladders
2. Lift 50 lbs
3. Work in a range of temperatures when working on outside projects
1. Should have interest in history and museums.
2. Able to work with and direct volunteers.
3. Capable of working with Microsoft applications.
